YOU DECIDE. YOU CHOOSE.
Basildon Creative People and Places is a programme steered and directed by the community that aims to get local people choosing, creating and taking part in exciting cultural activities throughout the Borough.
Our Towns is a new public art festival coming to Basildon this summer. Ten world-class artists have been partnered with local organisations to produce artwork that brings conversation and colour to the walls of the town.
In partnership with Creative Estuary, we will create the UK’s largest carbon absorbing mural right in the heart of Basildon town centre. We want to create an inspiring and positive mural addressing the climate emergency.
However! We need YOU to decide the artwork you want to see on your high street! You may only choose 1 of the options below..
Would you like to see a mural that focusses on PEOPLE or PLANET?
CAST YOUR VOTE BELOW!
OPTION 1: PEOPLE
Reflecting on the world’s population and the health of humans, this direction looks at how the climate emergency affects people.
Our food systems, transport infrastructure, education and health and wellbeing will all be impacted by the climate emergency. Some communities will be impacted much more than others.
Through this direction the artist will create a mural celebrating our relationships with each other and communities working together to tackle the climate emergency.
OPTION 2: PLANET
Reflecting on the natural world, this direction looks at how the climate emergency affects our planet.
Ice caps melting, rising sea-levels and deforestation are examples of critical global issues, but we want to build our understanding of impacts on the natural world at a local level, in Basildon and its surrounding areas.
Through this direction the artist will create a mural that takes us back to nature and re-establishes our connections to the local environment.
Poll ends on Monday 24th May 2021.
